Liquid & Water Damage Repair — Laptops, Phones & MacBooks in Cyprus
Spilled coffee, water, wine or juice on your laptop, phone, tablet or MacBook? A liquid spill is one of the few faults where every hour counts — because the real damage usually isn't the water, it's the corrosion it leaves behind on the board. The sooner the device is opened, cleaned and repaired, the more we can save — often the device and the data on it.
Silent Cloud TECH is a component-level electronics repair centre in Limassol serving all of Cyprus. When a device dies after a spill, we don't just dry it out and hope — we do full disassembly, board cleaning, and board-level repair of the damaged traces and components under the microscope. This is exactly the kind of job most shops give up on.
What to do in the first minutes
What you do in the first few minutes after a spill matters more than almost anything else. If the device is still in your hands:
- Power it off immediately. Hold the power button until it shuts down. Don't wait to "see if it still works" — while it stays powered, current keeps driving corrosion and shorts across the wet board.
- Unplug it and do NOT charge it. Charging a wet device is one of the fastest ways to kill it for good. Leave it off, and off the charger.
- Don't keep turning it on to test it. Each power-up risks a fresh short.
- For a laptop, unplug it and, if the battery is easily removable, take it out. Stand the device upside down like an open tent so liquid drains away from the board rather than into it.
- Skip the "home remedies." Rice does nothing for corrosion and leaves dust and starch inside. A hairdryer pushes liquid deeper and can melt components. Neither one cleans the board.
- Bring it in fast. The sooner we can open and clean it, the better the outcome — even a device that seems fine after a spill can corrode and fail days later.
One safety note: if a battery is swollen, hot, hissing or leaking, don't press or puncture it and don't charge the device — power it off and bring it in.
Why corrosion is the real danger, not the water
Most people think liquid damage is just about a device "getting wet." It isn't. Clean water that dries completely often does little harm on its own. The real enemy is corrosion — the chemical reaction between the liquid, a powered circuit and the metal on the board.
- Liquid is rarely pure. Coffee, seawater, wine, juice and soft drinks are full of salts, sugars and acids that conduct electricity and eat into metal.
- Corrosion keeps working after the device looks dry. It creeps along traces, under chips and into connectors for days or weeks, breaking connections that were fine at first.
- That's why an "it still works" device can die later. The damage is progressive: cleaning it out early stops the process, while leaving it lets the corrosion spread until the fault becomes permanent.
This is also why simply drying a device is not a repair. Until the corrosion and residue are physically removed from the board, the damage keeps advancing.
What we actually do — cleaning and board repair
Liquid damage repair at Silent Cloud TECH is real board-level work, not a dry-out and a prayer. A typical job involves:
- Full disassembly. The device is completely stripped down so every affected area of the board can be reached.
- Ultrasonic and board cleaning. The board is cleaned — including ultrasonic cleaning where appropriate — to flush out liquid residue, salts and sugars that keep conducting and corroding.
- Removing corrosion. Corrosion is cleared from traces, pads, connectors and component legs under the microscope.
- Board-level repair. We repair damaged traces and pads and replace failed parts — resistors, capacitors, coils — and, where needed, the chips and ICs (power-management ICs, controllers and other affected chips) the spill knocked out.
To be precise about our terms: the board is repaired, and any failed chip or IC is replaced. All of it is done under the microscope on a professional rework and BGA station. In our experience it's the kind of recovery that around 99% of shops in Cyprus won't attempt — they swap the whole board or write the device off.
Can my data be saved?
Very often, yes — and it's one of the main reasons people bring us a device after a spill. Photos, documents and work files usually matter far more than the hardware.
- Recovering the device usually recovers the data. Once we clean the corrosion and repair the board so the device powers on again, your data is normally right there, intact.
- Even when a device can't be fully revived, the storage chip is often undamaged, and the data can frequently still be recovered as a separate job.
- Acting fast helps here too. The less corrosion reaches the storage and its controller, the higher the chance of a clean recovery.
If getting your data back is the priority, tell us when you drop the device off so we treat it accordingly from the very first step of diagnostics.
How it works — bring it in or ship it
Getting a liquid-damaged device to us is simple, and speed is on your side:
- Walk in to our Limassol workshop — no appointment needed — or
- Ship it by ACS courier to the ACS office in Agios Nikolaos, recipient Silent Cloud TECH. Once it's repaired, return shipping is at our expense.
From there:
- Diagnostics — €40. We open the device and inspect the board to see how far the liquid and corrosion have spread and what has failed.
- Fixed quote and documents. After diagnostics you get a fixed price — not a moving estimate — and we issue full documents before any work begins. Nothing happens without your go-ahead.
- Cleaning and repair. The approved work is carried out under the microscope.
- Pickup or return. Collect it in Limassol, or we ship it back to you anywhere in Cyprus.
Please note: all work is done in the workshop — we don't offer on-site call-outs. Because corrosion is time-sensitive, the sooner your device reaches us, the more we can typically save.
Pricing
- Liquid / water damage repair — from €100.
- Diagnostics — €40. We assess the corrosion and find the actual fault before anyone commits to anything.
After the €40 diagnostics we give you a fixed quote and issue full documents before starting. You approve the price up front, and it doesn't move once work begins. The final cost depends on how far the liquid spread and which components were damaged — which is exactly what the diagnostics tells us.
