Common MacBook faults we fix

We repair both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, from the older Intel models through to Apple Silicon. Some faults are a straightforward module swap; others sit deep on the logic board, where most Apple-focused shops stop. We deal with both.

• Won't power on or won't charge — often an SMC issue, a failed charging IC or a PMIC (power-management chip) fault. We diagnose the board and replace the faulty chip, then repair the board, rather than scrapping the whole machine.
• Liquid damage and corrosion — a spill leaves conductive residue that keeps attacking the board long after it dries. We clean, de-corrode and repair the affected circuitry.
• Display and graphics problems — no image, backlight faults, flickering, artefacts or lines. This can be a screen (module) issue or a board-level fault; diagnostics tells us which.
• Swollen battery — a safety issue, and a module replacement (see the section below).
• Cracked or damaged screen — a module replacement.
• Dead ports, keyboard or trackpad — frequently traced back to a fault on the board.

Logic-board repair vs part replacement

Not every repair is the same kind of work, and we are always plain about which one your MacBook needs.

• Module replacement — the battery and screen are complete modules. When one of these is the problem, the job is to replace the module. We present these plainly for what they are: a part swap, not board-level surgery.
• Board-level repair — when the fault is on the logic board itself, we work at component level: microsoldering, BGA re-balling, and replacing failed chips such as the charging IC or PMIC. The individual chip is replaced and the board is repaired — the machine keeps its own logic board and your data stays put.

In our experience, the vast majority of repair shops in Cyprus won't attempt board-level work — roughly 99%, as a rough estimate — so they either fit a whole replacement board or send the MacBook away. That board-level repair is our specialism, and it is usually far cheaper than replacing the entire board.

Liquid-damaged MacBook

Liquid damage is one of the most common — and most recoverable — MacBook faults we see, but only if it is handled correctly and quickly. Spilled liquid leaves residue that corrodes tracks and components even after the surface looks dry.

If your MacBook has taken a spill, the safe steps are simple: turn it off immediately, do not charge it, and do not keep powering it on to check if it still works. Every power-up while corrosion is spreading risks more damage. Then bring it in as fast as you can — the sooner we can open it up and clean it, the more we can save.

Once it reaches us, we clean and de-corrode the board, assess what the liquid has affected, and carry out the board-level repairs needed to bring it back.

Swollen battery (safe advice)

A swollen battery is a genuine safety issue, not just a performance one. If your MacBook's trackpad or base is bulging, or the case no longer sits flat, treat it with care.

The safe advice: stop using the MacBook, power it off, and do not charge it. Never press, bend or puncture a swollen battery, and keep it away from heat. Then bring it to us promptly so it can be removed and replaced safely.

Replacing the battery is a module replacement, and we present it as exactly that — a part swap done properly and safely.

The process is the same whether you walk in or ship the machine to us.

• Diagnostics — we assess the MacBook for a €40 diagnostic fee and identify the real fault.
• Fixed quote — after diagnostics you get a fixed price, so there are no surprises. We issue full documents before any work starts.
• Repair — module replacement or board-level repair, done in our own workshop.
• Return — collect it in Limassol, or we ship it back to you.

If you can't reach Limassol, ship the MacBook by ACS courier to ACS Agios Nikolaos, addressed to Silent Cloud TECH — return shipping is at our expense. Our staff speak Russian and English. Please note we don't do on-site call-outs: repairs are done in the workshop.
